Beyond our beautiful neighborhoods and thriving local businesses, North Carolina is home to some of the most spirited, tradition-rich universities and colleges in the country. Whether you're an alum, a proud parent, or simply love the electric energy of campus towns, school spirit here is a way of life!


Let’s take a warm and inviting tour across our state, spotlighting major universities alongside the wonderful smaller colleges that make our local communities so special:


  • UNC Chapel Hill (Chapel Hill): Tar Heel pride runs deep. From sipping water from the historic Old Well to a sea of Carolina Blue on game days, the sense of community here is unmatched.


  • UNC Greensboro (Greensboro): Right here in our backyard, UNCG brings incredible energy! With over 20,000 students, beautiful campus green spaces, and fierce Spartan pride in Division I athletics, it’s a vibrant heartbeat of our city.


  • NC State University (Raleigh): Powered by an incredible pack mentality, Wolfpack spirit is all about innovation, grit, and community, whether tailgating at Carter-Finley Stadium or walking through the Brickyard.


  • Duke University (Durham): Famous for its stunning gothic architecture and legendary basketball tradition, Blue Devil pride is fierce and passionate.


  • Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem): Nestled in our Triad region, Wake Forest blends academic excellence with deep-rooted school pride. Cheering on the Demon Deacons feels like one big family reunion.


  • Appalachian State University (Boone): Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, App State pride is woven right into the crisp mountain air with Black and Gold game days.


  • East Carolina University (Greenville): If you want legendary tailgating and hospitality, Pirate Nation is where it's at! Purple and gold fill Greenville every autumn Saturday.


  • North Carolina A&T State University (Greensboro): Proudly right in our home city, A&T boasts an unmatched legacy. The Blue and Gold Marching Machine and homecoming traditions embody a spirit that gives you chills!


  • Elon University (Elon): Known for its breathtaking campus and tight-knit community, Phoenix pride shines through student involvement and a wonderfully supportive culture.


Celebrating Our Treasured Smaller Colleges & Local Gems While the massive universities often steal the spotlight, the true heartbeat of the Piedmont Triad includes our incredible smaller institutions and liberal arts colleges. Places like Guilford College (rich in history and community focus), Greensboro College (right in downtown with wonderful campus traditions), and the historic Bennett College bring unique charm and tight-knit family vibes to our region. Plus, specialized campuses like the UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem and wonderful neighboring institutions like Salem College add immense artistic and cultural flair to everyday life here.


The Triad Advantage Perspective: Living near such a rich tapestry of vibrant universities and close-knit smaller colleges brings incredible vitality to our entire region. It’s part of what makes calling North Carolina home so special!
